Thursday’s are my “Race Pace” days and whilst I have a target of 5:45 – 6:00 minute k’s, I went out hardish and maintained a steady 5:30 minute K.
Again I got up early and again I spent an eternity playing mind games – the solitude at 5:30am does me no favours as everyone is still asleep and I feel no obligation to go for a run. It’s like I’m a loser only if other people see me abstain – crazy thought processes belie my usual measured rationale.
After an hour and a half, I ventured out, the first K was hard and uphill and a surprisingly fast (for me) 5:29 minutes. It was so cold that I actually wore gloves for the first time that I can remember, along with skins (2XU) top and shorts.
Three more K’s at an average of 5:29 minutes and I tried to imagine maintaining this pace for a 10K race and came to the conclusion that right now I’d probably struggle, but keep up with this regime over the next six weeks and it’s definitely possible.
Next up is a 5K followed by a 30 minute easy run on Sunday.
Carrying on from the Nitro Circus theme from last Saturday, a question:
Why do they have saddles on BMX bikes?
