Melbourne Cup

Tomorrow is Melbourne Cup day – where Melbourne has a public holiday to celebrate a horse race! I am serious – I’m pretty sure that the Grand national and the Kentucky derby are held on a Saturday, so I think we are unique in that respect.

There are 10 races tomorrow with the first starting at 10:30am – we are invited to the family/friends BBQ/drink up and a $1 sweep in every race. This can become quite costly if you have a couple of kids – $4 a sweep – especially if you don’t win any of the races.

Spent all day in Sydney today – a very civilised 7:30am outbound flight with an eventual early 4:30pm flight back. I had inadvertently booked a return flight (6:00pm) that wasn’t flexible and so needed to upgrade to business class to ensure an earlier flight and even then I was on standby – luckily only for 45 minutes.

Whilst in Sydney I managed to find the radio station 2GB  – Ray Hadley – swimming/rugby commentator and Chris Smith – they are so typically NSW talk back hosts and find them so refreshing after Neil Mitchell and Derryn Hinch (Melbourne talk back hosts) – On the dial is 837AM – so the tie in with the Melbourne Cup is the trifecta numbers 8,3 & 7 in any order.

Good luck if you have a bet and have a great day.

BTW – this will be a running blog one day – stay tuned!
