Bike and Swim

Harry and I headed out for a bike ride last night and a couple of things dawned on me:

  1. We traveled at a fairly brisk pace, albeit with a very steep hill included (Devereaux) but we were still 11kph on average slower than some of Andrew’s bike rides- wow – he must be hammering the pace
  2. Even on our bikes we are pro rata 20 minutes outside the mens marathon pace for 42k – I’m am so in awe of those guys – just mind blowing. Even our own  JR has a sub 3 hour time – that’s a sprint isn’t it?

Thigh is still a little sore, so at 7:45am this morning I headed to the gym for a session in the pool. Completed 20 laps before they closed off all but 1 lane (kids lessons and an aqua class) -the medium paced lane became the ultra slow and congested lane – so I crawled through another 6 laps before giving up. I need to go a lot earlier than 8:00am in future.

For the record, we had 23C here this morning and a shed load of rain this afternoon – is it ever going to stop? Maybe it helped me pick the winner of the Derby at $12.90! ha!

  1. Andrew says:

Oh well, you can just say Harry was slowing you down, or if that doesn’t work, it must be my faster bike?

I hate it when the pool gets congested, fortunately mine rarely does.

  2. Lol, you’re too kind, I think I was slowing Harry down on my 20 year old Shogun!

A marathon as a sprint, that’s an interesting idea. I suppose to Karnazes it IS a sprint.
